Intro

Our Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning MSc prepares you for in-demand roles like machine learning engineer, data scientist and AI developer, or for a career in research.

You’ll gain the skills you need to design, build and deploy AI solutions that address global industry challenges in the fast-evolving fields of artificial intelligence, data science and intelligent systems development.

You’ll develop skills in programming for AI and data science, machine learning techniques and model evaluation, applying them to real data sets using industry-standard software. You’ll also explore the ethical and societal implications of AI, ensuring your solutions are responsible, robust and fit for purpose.

The industry placement or research year is a great way to gain valuable professional or academic experience and provides an opportunity for international students to study in the UK for two years instead of one.

91Ώμ»ξΑΦ & Hove is the UK’s leading city for new economy businesses (Centre for Cities 2025) which include artificial intelligence as a sector. The city has strong links to the AI community and is just an hour away from central London.

Staff profile

, course leader

“Central to my approach as course leader is the emphasis on collaboration and interdisciplinary learning. I believe that data science is inherently interdisciplinary, drawing from fields such as statistics, machine learning, computer science and domain-specific knowledge. Therefore, I strive to create opportunities for students to work collaboratively on projects that mirror real-world scenarios where they can leverage their diverse backgrounds and expertise to tackle complex challenges.

“Through teamwork, peer-to-peer learning and engagement with industry partners, students gain invaluable teamworking and communication skills that are essential for success in today’s data-driven world.

“In addition to teaching, my research focuses on developing innovative statistical methods, which I distribute as open-source software (R packages) and apply in interdisciplinary projects.

“As a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society and Treasurer of the British and Irish Region of the International Biometric Society, I am heavily involved in professional development activities, participating in conferences, workshops and collaborations within the data science community.”
