What to write
Irrespective of the type of course you are applying for, you should discuss the following in your application:
- The content of your first degree and your study skills.
- Your final year project or dissertation, especially if there is a strong link to any future research you wish to embark upon.
- Any previous and current work experience or volunteering. Some courses, especially vocational courses, will ask for related work experience or volunteering. If you are currently in the process of arranging this, it should still be mentioned.
- If you are applying to individual courses, outline why you chose this particular institution - for example, what research projects have been undertaken there? Are there any other features about it that appeal to you? Note: this would not be appropriate if you were applying for a range of courses through a clearing house. You may have to talk more generally about courses and institutions.
