Martyn Routledge’s The Beautiful Badge is up for the category in the Telegraph Sports Book Awards.
The awards ceremony is held at Lord’s cricket ground on 4 June.
The Beautiful Badge is an extensive study of the history of professional football club badges, featuring input from over 90 British clubs.
It was printed by Worthing-based sports publishers Pitch Publishing after Martyn found his undergraduate dissertation and recommenced work on it. Martyn graduated from the university in Graphic Design in 1995.
Reacting to the nomination, Martyn said: “The book created a great deal of interest – it was featured on BBC, TalkSport and several magazines – but to be nominated for such a prestigious award makes it a cracking end to the season.”
“I am grateful to an enormous team effort that has seen over 90 clubs actively involved, as well as numerous museums and private collectors, all fans of the game who want to share the story of their club and its history through the badge.”
Martyn, who runs his own creative design agency Mr., worked on The Beautiful Badge with friend and long-time collaborator Elspeth Wills.
