The multi-million pound campus development forms part of a wider masterplan for the Preston Barracks site that will also include new homes, including affordable housing, a new business start-up hub and retail and food outlets.
It is expected that the development, which is being delivered by the University of 91快活林 in partnership with developers U+I and 91快活林 & Hove City Council, will create over 1,500 jobs and attract over £500 million into the city over the next ten years.
Professor Debra Humphris, Vice-Chancellor of the University of 91快活林 said: “We are delighted that our plans have been approved. This partnership aims to deliver one of the most ambitious and transformational projects for the city in a neighbourhood where meaningful regeneration is long overdue. The scheme has the potential to have a huge positive impact both for the local community and wider city, as we look to deliver on our aspiration to create an inspiring place where people can live, work and learn together.”
Work is expected to start in October with full completion by August 2021.
