Academic Registry

Christopher Wellings

As Academic Registrar, Christopher leads on the delivery and continuous improvement of the university’s academic administrative services. Christopher leads Academic Registry, which comprises divisions responsible for admissions, student systems and data, student records and fees, visa compliance, exams and ceremonies, quality and standards, timetabling and Doctoral College administration. The Academic Registrar’s portfolio also includes the Evaluation and Policy Department which leads on the university’s engagement with external policy as well as providing insight and strategic support for TEF, NSS and student surveys. Christopher also works closely with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr David Walker to support his strategy for the enhancement of education and the student experience.

Estate and Facilities Management

Matt Kitson

Estate and Facilities Management, led by Matt, is responsible for the physical environment in which staff and students work, live and learn. Matt's team works to provide excellent facilities for the university community as a whole, and to contribute to ensuring an enriching student experience through fit for purpose, high-quality buildings and support services.

Finance

Louise Parr-Morley

As Interim Chief Finance Officer, Louise supports the university in planning, managing and maximising the value and use of its financial resources in order to achieve its objectives in a sustainable, controlled and accountable way. The five divisions of the department provide the following financial support services for the university: incomes and payments; payroll and pensions; procurement services; accounting information services; and financial planning.

Information Services

Quentin North

Quentin leads Information Services, the department which provides facilities and resources to support learning, teaching, research and administration. This includes the university’s IT network, its four libraries, the student digital learning environment, open access computers, digital information resources, media centres, print and binding services as well as support, advice and training on the use of information and equipment.

Internal Audit

Barry Frankham

Barry’s department is responsible for carrying out independent appraisals of all the institution’s activities, both financial and otherwise. It provides an independent assurance of the university’s internal control framework to the Governing Body and the Vice-Chancellor.

The team also have an active role in risk management, fraud and irregularity investigations, value for money and advice and guidance on systems and processes throughout the Institution.

Marketing and Communications

Elizabeth Sanz

As Director of Marketing and Communications, Elizabeth is responsible for the development and implementation of a range of marketing, communications and brand strategies. The department comprises a number of specialist teams working across all forms of marketing (in areas including student recruitment, research, and enterprise), internal communications, design, brand management, user experience design, market research, digital communications, social media, film and photography, news media, PR and public affairs. Marketing and Communications also provides organisational support for corporate events, conferences and award ceremonies.

Occupational Safety and Health Services

Alan Cowen

Alan’s department is responsible for the university’s overarching health and safety strategy. The team prepares and issues safety policies and codes of practice, it audits safety, undertakes accident investigation and reporting, and promotes best working practices in order to reduce ill health across the university. The team liaises with external organisations on matters of health and safety, provides and maintains fire-fighting equipment, responds to incidents and provides safety training courses.

People Department

Julie Fryatt

As Chief People Officer, Julie is responsible for the leadership of the People team and the functions within it. These include the Operations teams that, for example, support recruitment and onboarding.  Other teams include Employee Relations team, who support our work with our trade unions, the People Partner team who provide advice and support to managers on a wide range of complex people issues.

The EDI team take the lead on supporting a range of internal EDI activities, including supporting our Charter work and supporting our staff networks.

Leadership and Organisation Development (OD) colleagues within the People function support a wide range of leadership training as well as our wider OD work.

Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement

Marnie Middlemiss

Marnie is responsible for leading the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement department to build a culture of philanthropy amongst our students, colleagues, graduates and friends. This involves encouraging our community to give their time, share their knowledge and experiences, and give donations to support our students, research and development of our facilities.

The team supports colleagues from across the university to identify opportunities to raise funds to support and to engage with alumni as volunteers who can support students with their learning and employability.

Research and Knowledge Exchange

Overview

We support academics to maximise the income and impact of their research, consultancy and enterprise activities. It includes Bid Support, the Knowledge Exchange Team, the IP and Contracts team, the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) Centre, Research Services, the Clean Growth UK team, and the Community University Partnership Programme (CUPP).

Joanna Havers

As Associate Director, Knowledge Exchange, Joanna  co-directs the Department of Research and Knowledge Exchange. She manages the Knowledge Exchange Team who develop opportunities to generate income and impact from applying academic expertise with non-HEI partners, and commercialising academic expertise. She is responsible for the Knowledge Exchange Framework (KEF) and for regional engagement.

Ingrid Pugh

As Associate Director, Research Services, Ingrid co-directs the Department of Research and Knowledge Exchange. She manages the research pre-award team who support the development of research bids. The team also support researcher development including the R and KE workshop programme, the development and delivery of the Concordat Implementation Plan and internal research initiatives. Ingrid is also the university’s Research Excellence Framework (REF) Manager.

Ronit Rose

As Associate Director, Contracts and R and KE Governance, Ronit co-directs the Department of Research and Knowledge Exchange. She manages the Contracts, IP and Governance team who ensures that research and knowledge exchange projects are managed ethically and responsibly, provides legal services on  broad contractual and IP related matters, protects innovation and safeguards against financial risks and reputational damage.

Student Operations and Support

Sarah Lambert

As Director of Student Operations and Support, Sarah has responsibility for wellbeing services (which includes counselling, student support and guidance tutors (SSGTs), pastoral support for students in university residential accommodation and the chaplaincy service), disability support, service centre and the student advice service, the careers service, accommodation services, sport and recreation and off-campus liaison. Student Operations and Support aims to provide a coordinated end-to-end student experience, particularly in regard to employability, campus life and student personal development. She manages relationships with key stakeholders including the Students’ Union and the local NHS.

Technical Education and Apprenticeships Hub

Sophia Goodway

As the Head of Technical Education and Apprenticeships, Sophia leads on the strategic oversight, continuous improvement and sustainable growth of the university’s Technical Education and Apprenticeship provision. Sophia provides directorship to the Technical Education and Apprenticeship Hub, who are a specialist professional service responsible for the operational management of apprenticeships through driving up quality and upholding regulatory standards. Sophia also acts as the university’s main contact for regulatory bodies within the technical education and apprenticeship landscape including the ESFA, Ofsted and IfATE.
